Gli Overkill sono una thrash metal band americana, formatasi nel 1980 nel New Jersey, (spesso dicono si siano formati a New York). La band è attiva sin dal 1984 rilasciando 14 studio album, 2 EP, 2 album live e un album di cover.
Questo é il vero esempio di comesia nato il thrash metal nella bay area....inizialmente il gruppo con un altro chitarrista faceva cover di gruppi punk, successivamente con il cambio del chitarrista iniziarono a fare cover di Judas Priest, Motorhead cominciando a mischiare i 2 sound hardcore punk e heavy.
Il primo demo esce nel 1984 "Power in Black" e da qui in poi hanno continuato fino ad oggi, anche se con numerosi cambi di line up.
Per il 9 ottobre 2007 é prevista l'uscita del nuovo album "Immortalis" quindicesimo album in studio.
